THE BENEFITS OF CBN

THE BENEFITS OF CBN

Although CBN is a lesser-known cannabinoid than CBD, its therapeutic potential has attracted increasing scientific interest over recent years. CBN is believed to act as a powerful anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, sleep aid, analgesic, and more.

In this article, we discuss the way in which CBN enhances the effects of Goldvana’s cannabinoid-rich formula. The statements herein have not been evaluated by the US Food and Drug Administration, and any information herein is not intended to aid any reader in the diagnosis, treatment, curing, or prevention of any disease or other medical condition.

What is CBN?

Like CBD, CBN is a naturally-occurring, non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid found in the hemp plant. CBD accounts for about 40% of the hemp plant’s chemical composition, making it the dominant compound in hemp and hemp-derived products. Nonetheless, the hemp plant contains hundreds of other, non-psychoactive cannabinoids in smaller concentrations. Because they are present in lower concentrations than CBD, these compounds are classified as “minor” cannabinoids.

CBN is unique in that it binds directly with CB2 receptors, a type of cannabinoid receptor that is especially prevalent in immune system cells, the digestive tract, internal organs, and peripheral tissues. Because it binds with different receptors than CBD, CBN produces benefits that are unattainable with CBD alone. When the two are combined, cannabinoids reach more receptors in the endocannabinoid system, which is why a cannabinoid-rich formula produces more benefits within the body and brain.

As we aim to illustrate in this article, the importance of “minor” cannabinoids such as CBN cannot be underestimated. CBD has been proven to work more effectively in combination with minor cannabinoids such as CBN, which increase its potency and multiply its benefits. In short, CBN enhances the effects of CBD while contributing its own, distinctive benefits to the overall impact of cannabinoid-rich products.

CBN for Pain and Inflammation

Like CBD, CBN is thought to reduce pain, though it does so through a different mechanism of action–as a result, formulas that combine CBD and CBN work in different ways to combat pain simultaneously. By combatting pain from all angles, CBD formulas rich in minor cannabinoids such as CBN offer enhanced analgesic benefits.

As aforementioned, CBN binds directly with CB2 receptors, which play an essential role in modulating pain and inflammation in the joints, internal organs, peripheral tissues, muscles, and skin.

In addition to its affinity with CB2 receptors, CBN also works to reduce pain through another, unique mechanism of action. CBN reduces pain through its interaction with TRPV1 receptors, which act as channels for the transmission of pain signals from the body to the brain. Specifically, TRPV1 receptors are responsible for modulating nociceptive pain: the type of pain that we experience in response to a bodily injury or damage (i.e. a burn, scratch, wound, cut, and so forth). When we experience an injury, TRPV1 receptors transmit pain signals from the body to the brain, and this neurotransmission is responsible for the way in which we experience pain itself, particularly with regard to the severity of painful sensations.

Through its modulation of TRPV1 channels, CBN is thought to intervene in the transmission of pain signals, which may allow CBN to dull pain signals and reduce the severity of the painful sensations that we experience when these signals are transmitted. Thus CBN, like CBD, is suggested to act as a powerful analgesic.

CBN for Sleep

CBN is perhaps best known for its potential as a sleep-aid. CBN is believed to improve sleep quality and increase sleep duration, while stabilizing our circadian rhythms to establish healthy sleeping patterns on a long-term basis.

Studies suggest that cannabinoids such as CBN prolong the duration of deep REM sleep, the most important phase of deep, rejuvenative sleep that we require to feel rested. REM sleep plays a crucial role in nearly all aspects of our physical and mental health; many long and short-term health issues are associated with a lack of REM sleep, which can become an issue for a variety of individuals due to certain ailments, or common lifestyle factors such as stress and poor sleeping patterns.

Combined with CBD, CBN is also suggested to prolong sleep duration, promote sleep onset, and reduce nighttime waking. As such, CBN is one of the most promising cannabinoids that has been studied as a sleep-aid thus far.

CBN for Stress Reduction and Relaxation

Researchers have expressed interest in the anxiolytic effects of CBN, and evidence suggests that because this cannabinoid exhibits sedative, calming properties, it may also function as an aid for stress management. CBN relaxes the muscles and promotes feelings of calm, reducing tension in the body and mind. These effects may contribute to its utility for sleep, as stress and muscle spasms can cause sleep interruption and nighttime waking. When combined with CBD, CBN works day and night to relieve various forms of tension in the body and mind.

CBN and Eye Health

Like CBD, CBN produces its benefits through its interaction with the endocannabinoid system, a network of receptors and neurotransmitters that spreads throughout the body and brain. Cannabinoids such as CBN bind with cannabinoid receptors to produce benefits in specific areas of the body and brain.

Cannabinoid receptors are especially prevalent in the eye area, and CBN binds with these receptors to produce benefits for ocular health. As such, CBN is believed to reduce pressure and ocular discomfort, while supporting overall eye health. CBD is believed to support eye health, reduce ocular discomfort, and reduce pressure in this region of the body.

CBN and Appetite

Further studies suggest that CBN acts as an appetite stimulant, making cannabinoid-rich products containing CBN perfect for those who struggle with a decreased appetite or difficulty eating.

Additional Benefits: The Future of CBN Research

These are just a few of the more widely-studied benefits of CBN, while studies suggest that it has many more therapeutic properties to offer. Researchers also suggest that CBN may reduce muscle spasms, offer antibacterial and antibiotic properties, and support bone health. And as the most sedative of all cannabinoids, CBN continues to undergo extensive research as an anxiolytic, sleep aid, muscle relaxant, and more.

In short, the future of CBN research shows amazing promise, while past studies have suggested that CBN has incredible benefits to contribute to the effects of cannabinoid-rich formulas.

How CBN Enhances CBD: Minor Cannabinoids and The “Entourage Effect”

Though it may be considered a “minor” cannabinoid, CBN makes major contributions to the therapeutic value of Goldvana’s CBD products. As illustrated above, CBN offers many of its own, distinctive benefits that are unattainable with CBD alone.

Simultaneously, this minor cannabinoid enhances the effects of CBD itself. Over the past three decades, countless scientific studies have confirmed that CBD is more potent, effective, and offers more benefits when it is consumed in combination with other cannabinoids such as CBN. This is because “minor” cannabinoids synergize with CBD to increase its potency, multiply its benefits, and widen the scope of benefits that a cannabinoid-rich CBD product can provide. And because Goldvana products are rich in CBD as well as minor cannabinoids, its CBD formula offers the widely sought “entourage effect”: the synergistic result of cannabinoids and terpenes working together to multiply the benefits, enhance the potency, and increase the therapeutic scope of CBD products.

Ultimately, cannabinoids are always more effective when they are working together, and for this reason, Goldvana strives to incorporate CBN and other minor cannabinoids into all of its CBD products.
